A Cartography of Migration

Variety entertainment & circus

A Migrant Cartography—a multi-performative intervention in which we’ll dance our way into your hearts
!

Memories felt throughout the body become dance theater. A Migrant Cartography transforms
body cartographies of migration experiences into a performance featuring contemporary
dance, conversation, live music, singing, and textile body objects—right in the middle of the audience.
Colorful, complex, delicately moving, and painfully loud, they bear witness to open, exclusionary, racist landscapes at the very heart of our society. And yet the images are rich in presence and individuality, in curiosity and joie de vivre.
Under the artistic direction of choreographer Andrea Lagos Neumann and her team
, A Migrant Cartography brings these drawings and other themes of life as a foreigner
into the third dimension. The performance expands on cartography through contemporary dance, live music, text, song, and numerous textile body objects—
—right into the heart of the audience. With clear words and gestures, it showcases resistance,
self-confidence, vitality, and joy among us. A Migrant Cartography, directed by
, charts new landscapes together with the audience.

People on and off stage have come to Germany
from countries outside Europe. People grappling with questions of belonging. With experiences that are sad and
difficult—but also marked by enthusiasm.

Following the performance on November 14, 2026, there will be a discussion moderated by Freiburg-based migration expert and activist Kirstie Amono Angstman with
the artists and the audience.
