The Community Psychiatric Association (GPV) has been committed to improving support for people with mental health challenges in Freiburg for twelve years. In addition to service providers, many (social) psychiatric care facilities are represented in the GPV. Together with people with experience of psychiatry and relatives, it regularly reviews whether the services in Freiburg are sufficient and meet the needs of those affected.

Many people with mental illnesses find it difficult to talk about their situation or to seek help. While intensive education about depression as an illness has led to greater public awareness, there are still prejudices about other illnesses, such as psychoses or bipolar disorders. In order to reduce these prejudices, many GPV facilities are inviting people to get to know them during the "Days of Encounter" from May 3 to 16.
