Jesse Coston: Of Life and Opera

The documentary JESSE COSTON: OF LIFE AND OPERA portrays the American-born opera singer and director Jesse Coston in conversation. After studying at the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston and the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, he received a Fulbright Scholarship in 1976 to continue his studies in Germany. As one of the first African-American artists to be engaged as a solo singer in Germany, he was a member of the ensemble at Theater Freiburg from 1984 to 2008, where he staged productions and has lived and worked in Freiburg ever since. In this interview, Jesse Coston talks about his youth, discovering his passion, racial segregation and racism and his marriage to his long-term partner Peter in 2022.
