The non-profit cultural association Kreativpioniere Freiburg e.V. will host the 1st Freiburg Pop-Up Book Fair "FreiBUCH" from Friday to Sunday, May 3-5, 2024, in the cultural halls of Schopf2.

Opening hours are Friday 4pm - 8pm, Saturday 10am - 6pm, Sunday 10am - 4pm.

Patron is Freiburg's 1st mayor Ulrich von Kirchbach. The Literaturhaus Freiburg as well as the Freiburg City Library support the FreiBUCH as cooperation partners and participate in several program items. The main focus of FreiBUCH is to make Freiburg authors, self-publishers and publishers visible, present them and network with them, as well as to promote the general joy of reading and writing among children and young people through targeted offers and workshops.

There will be around 20 exhibitor stands in two of the three halls. The contribution towards costs per stand is 150 euros for all three days (pro rata for security concept, fire protection and insurance). Individual Freiburg authors who publish with publishers throughout Germany can share a stand and thus also the stand occupancy times and expenses (e.g. five people = 30 € per person). The same applies to self-publishers. If subsidies are found, this contribution to expenses could be reduced.

In the third hall there is the FreiBÜHNE with an exciting program of readings, interviews, talks, performances and book presentations. Furthermore, there is a large, separate workshop room, as a shelter especially for the children's and youth program, as well as a reading room of the same size as a retreat for browsing.

Parallel to the book fair, an exhibition of paintings, sculptures, photographs and caricatures by several artists on the theme of "books" will be held in the three halls. The FreiCAFÉ will cater to the guests. On the first day, Friday, May 3, an official opening evening is planned.

The FreiBUCH is non-commercial; admission is free.
