Esther Kinsky: Heim.Statt - Musical reading and conversation with José F. A. Oliver
Monday, 26/05/2025 / 07:30 PM / Municipal cinema
"Each wants refuge / even the stone / in the unsteady field / the disemboweled / yellowhammer heart / the remaining feather the last / strike of the tongues / in the bird's mouth / each arch of the skull seeks the hollow / hand that gives it hold / each loud wants to be heard"
Flight, expulsion and injury over the millennia: Eurydice, fleeing in panic from Aristaios, overlooks the snake and dies from its bite. Landless cottagers in northern Scotland are resettled or forced to emigrate. A Polish maid transforms herself into a bird and escapes life's impositions. In northern Italy, women, left on their own for months, refuse to speak human language after the men return.
Touching images and stories in compelling language: the multi-award-winning poet and translator Esther Kinsky reads from "Heim.Statt" (Suhrkamp, 2025), a cycle of seven polyphonic long poems, accompanied by the singer and oud virtuoso Negar Bouban and the internationally renowned percussionist and festival organizer Murat Coskun.
