ECM Festival 2024: Zsófia Boros

Book tickets

Zsófia Boros' third recording for ECM has two main focuses: On the one hand, contemporary compositions from Argentina, and on the other, the music of French composer Mathias Duplessy, which spans several idioms. The US magazine Fanfare has praised the Vienna-based Hungarian guitarist to the skies, highlighting her "clear, beautiful tone, fluid phrasing, precise layering of melody and accompaniment, fluid finger movement and emphatic sense of mood and emotion" - all qualities that are particularly evident on El último aliento. The name of the album comes from the Carlos Moscardini composition of the same name, which closes the album. Other Argentinian composers that Boros interprets here are Joaquín Alem, Quique Sinesi and Alberto Ginastera - a dynamic repertoire that the guitarist performs with technical and lyrical brilliance. For Sinesi's "Tormenta de ilusión", Boros switches to the ronroco, a stringed instrument originating from the Andean regions. By combining Argentinian music with Duplessy's expressive pieces, Zsófia Boros creates an enchanting program that highlights her unique touch and wide-ranging influences in a way that is both gentle and captivating. The album was recorded at the Auditorio Stelio Molo in Lugano and produced by Manfred Eicher.
