Yasemin and Vito grow up in the same high-rise complex. At the age of thirteen, Yasemin falls in love with her neighbor, who is three years older than her. Fascinated by questions of faith and spirituality from an early age, she tries to win Vito over with a love spell. But after a stay in a sanatorium where her scoliosis is treated, she distances herself. Her own body is too alien to her, the shame of her corset too great. Only twenty years later, when her spine, which she had laboriously straightened, threatens to buckle again, do they meet again ...

"Ich stelle mich schlafend" (Suhrkamp, 2024) tells a story of erasure and liberation and asks about touches that irrevocably change the core of us humans. The evening will be hosted by literary critic Bettina Schulte. In 2021, she gave a laudatory speech for "Streulicht", Ohde's debut novel, which was nominated for the German Book Prize and awarded the Jürgen Ponto Literature Prize.
