Music as a state of mind - ,,How does Igor Levit transform music into a state of mind?" This is one of the questions explored in a recent documentary film: "What is the key to the incredible emotional and artistic intensity of his musical interpretation?" It remains a fascination - and that despite the fact that Igor Levit is one of the most media-present pianists of our time, a person who communicates his musical enthusiasm as clearly as his social concerns.

Perhaps the best approach to this enigma is the experience in concert, after Igor Levit's celebrated piano recital at Albert in January 2023 now with two piano concertos full of feeling. Levit's Bach interpretations are said to have a "high-resolution attention to detail", technically at a lonely height, with a playing precision that is unparalleled. At the same time, he is not an artist of a vacuum, but a man with a sense of context. In this program, Levit therefore combines the music of Johann Sebastian Bach with works by his son Carl Philipp Emanuel, who was to far surpass his father in fame for a while. C.P.E. himself, however, considered his older brother Wilhelm Friedemann to be the real original genius, more capable of following in his father's footsteps "than all of us put together." Igor Levit is assisted by the Berlin Baroque Soloists as expert advocates of the Bach musical dynasty. They can draw from their cornucopia of repertoire, having recently recorded not only award-winning recordings of Bach's violin concertos, but also cantatas and orchestral works by the Bach family - including various world premiere recordings.

J.S. Bach, Concerto for Piano, Strings and Basso continuo in D Minor BWV 1052
