The Amsterdam Klezmer Band's recipe is simple: a dose of klezmer mixed with a pinch of jazz, a dash of Balkan and a touch of gypsy, et voilà! The band, consisting of brass, double bass, accordion and drums, likes to make its audience sweat with pulsating grooves and subtle energy, but also invites you to dream with soulful melodies.
AKB gives the klezmer sound new impetus by incorporating contemporary styles and techniques into their music and drawing on elements of Balkan and oriental music, among others. The band thus manages to keep their music fresh, haunting and very danceable wherever they take the stage.
The Amsterdam Klezmer Band was founded in 1996 as a group of street musicians playing traditional Yiddish music. More than 25 years have passed quickly and the group has grown into an internationally acclaimed band with an established live reputation. The band can now look back on an impressive touring history with more than 1500 live shows played worldwide. They have built up a loyal audience over many years, with young fans joining them time and time again.
AKB has released 19 albums and worked on successful projects with Söndörg?, Amsterdams Andalusisch Orkest, Galata Gypsy Band and Lilian Vieira.
The band's upcoming album (release date: February 2024) will be produced by "Dunkelbunt" from Vienna. The powerful ''Amsterdam Klezmer'', which has stood the test of time for almost three decades, will be musically enriched by Dunkelbunt's highly danceable, cosmopolitan influences and complemented by some very special feature guests.
