6th chamber concert

Joseph Haydn has long been known for his musical humor. Works such as his ABSCHIEDSSINFONIE, in which more and more musicians gradually leave the stage during the piece, bear witness to this. His String Quartet No. 2 in E flat major op. 33 owes its nickname DER SCHERZ to a special twist at the end of the quartet. Béla Bartók's String Quartet No. 1, on the other hand, deals with his failed love affair with the violinist Stefi Geyer as a counterpoint to the musical joke. In Berliozian style, the lost lover haunts the expressive composition as an "idée fixe". Beethoven's String Quartet No. 3 op. 59 is a wonderful homage to Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart with its many allusions to the DISSONANCE QUARTET. Nevertheless, it is above all Beethoven's artistic drama and compositional virtuosity that characterize this special string quartet. Together with the wonderful Bertold Quartet, we can look forward to a varied concert full of joy, sorrow and musical devotion. Bertold Quartet: Michael Dinnebier (violin), Katja Schill-Mahni (violin), Robert Woodward (viola), Tomohisa Yano (violoncello)
