One of those dark-gold October Saturdays when Freiburg smells of wet leaves and a hint of cinnamon—in short, a Rory Gilmore kind of day: If Rory had a day just like this, she’d spend it in our home library! On October 17, the Carl Schurz House is hosting its annual “Library Day” in celebration of “Libraries Day,” and it’s tailor-made for her: hot coffee in one hand, a cloth bag in the other. Outside, maybe a light drizzle; inside, warm light and the scent of hundreds upon hundreds of paperbacks! In the foyer, our “Book Sale” awaits with English-language titles at bargain prices—more than enough to extend your reading list until Christmas—plus a raffle where even the losers lose with dignity. In the library, there are drinks, snacks, and plenty of free time to spend among the shelves; for the little ones, “Story Time” and a craft corner; in the Tinkering Room, “Wild Windmills” are spinning (drop in while the blades last); the Study and Exchange Advisory Service shows how to get to know America (Rory would be sitting in the front row); and the Filmmaking Club is celebrating two premieres. Put on your coziest sweaters, grab one of our exclusive CSH “tote bags” to fill with books—Rory would buy two just to be safe. We look forward to seeing our readers!
