An Evening of Short Films by Sasha Huber & Petri Saarikko

Seven short films made between 2008 and 2025 offer an insight into key themes and long-term projects in Sasha Huber’s practice. Moving between Haiti, New York, the Swiss Alps and Finland, they interweave personal histories with questions of colonial memory, racism, migration and belonging.

Seven short films made between 2008 and 2025 offer an insight into key themes and long-term projects in Sasha Huber’s practice. Moving between Haiti, New York, the Swiss Alps and Finland, they interweave personal histories with questions of colonial memory, racism, migration and belonging.

The programme includes films from Huber’s long-term project Demounting Agassiz and her series The Firsts. Many document artistic interventions through which Huber brings overlooked histories to light and challenges established forms of remembrance. Others draw on her own family history and their emigration from Haiti to the United States. Haïti Chérie was created in response to the devastating 2010 earthquake in Haiti.

The programme also features Black Lives Matter, a short film made jointly by Huber and Petri Saarikko. Together, the films offer a focused view of almost two decades of artistic engagement with history, memory and social change.
