Understanding Dementia – A Firsthand Experience with the Dementia Course

As part of Dementia Awareness Week, the Senior Citizens’ Office and Care Support Center are offering a specialized event for trainees and professionals. Through 14 stations, the “Dementia Simulator” provides a hands-on experience of living with dementia.  Registration is open until September 23 via email at seniorenbuero@freiburg.de.

Wherever people come together, we may encounter the issue of dementia. The disease has become a reality in the heart of our society; in Baden-Württemberg alone, approximately 220,000 people are living with dementia. The Freiburg Dementia Network has been working for years to raise public awareness about dementia. Among other initiatives, it organizes a week of activities centered around “World Alzheimer’s Day,” which takes place every year on September 21.

This week encourages us to continue helping people with dementia actively participate in social life. After all, many challenges are easier to overcome together than alone.

During Dementia Week, from Monday, September 21, through Sunday, September 27, events will take place throughout Freiburg.
