Fun with Felt: The Little Apple Mouse

This popular workshop for adults and a child has been part of my program for a long time and is enjoying growing popularity. Based on the little book “The Little Apple Mouse,” adults and children ages 6 or 7 and up work together to felt an apple. Using the wet felting technique—that is, water and soap—we felt the wool over a balloon. We make a small hole in the apple so the little mouse can peek out. The leaves and stem are also wet-felted, cut out, and attached to the apple. The little mouse is created using the dry-felting technique with a felting needle and then gets to move inside the apple. It becomes especially magical when the little apple house is lit up with a string of lights at the end. We’ll enjoy delicious apple tea and homemade apple muffins while spending a cozy, creative afternoon together.
