Everything But Standard German? The History and Stories of Our Language

Lectures, readings & discussions
In the Breisgau region, people speak Alemannic—that much is clear. But where do the various dialects actually come from, and how are they studied? And do people really still speak Alemannic, or is the dialect eventually going to die out?

Dr. Rudolf Bühler, a linguist and cultural scholar and executive director of the Umbrella Organization of Dialects in Baden-Württemberg, will explore these and other questions about our spoken language. Following that, Uschi Isele from the Muettersproch-Gsellschaft will present the association’s activities in the region aimed at preserving the Alemannic language.
