Where is the Catholic Church heading?

Free entry

Current developments in the Catholic Church under the new pontificate of Leo XIV will be the subject of an evening of the "Freiburg Religious Talks" in cooperation with the Catholic Academy of Freiburg on Wednesday, June 18 at 7 p.m. in the University campus Freiburg, KG I, lecture hall 1199.

The inauguration of Leo XIV raises many questions: Will the new pope, a doctor of canon law with worldwide leadership experience, set social-ethical accents like Pope Leo XIII? What is his position on demands for reform within the Church and what does he understand by synodality in a globally networked Church with diverse expectations?

These and other questions will be discussed by Dr. Jürgen Erbacher (Head of the ZDF editorial department "Kirche und Leben katholisch"), Prof. Dr. Claus Arnold (Medieval and Modern Church History, Mainz) and Prof. Dr. Ursula Nothelle-Wildfeuer (Christian Social Theory, Freiburg). The moderator will be Prof. Dr. Magnus Striet (Fundamental Theology and Anthropology, Freiburg).

Participation is free of charge, registration is not required.
