Sivan Ben Yishai and Ivna Zic: Trust in the word - 38th Freiburg Literature Talk: A conversation about war and language

Book tickets

What has changed since the terrorist attack on October 7, 2023: the language, the deeds, the images, our perception? Sivan Ben Yishai, one of the most important playwrights of our time, writes, reads, acts and thinks, multilingual and multiperspectival, while a terrible escalation of violence takes place in the Middle East. In her essay "Trust in the Word" (Theater heute, February 2024), she questions the "space between those who die and those who debate".

In an exchange with the author Ivna Zic, Ben Yishai attempts to view the Israeli-Palestinian present and the current discourse in Germany from a polyphonic perspective. Through selected readings, literature opens up a space of freedom, of interpersonal stories, of gray areas and contradictions, of hope and trust. The talk will be held in English.
