Eternal ice? Effects of climate change on the high mountains

Eternal ice? Effects of climate change on the high mountains

Free entry

The snow-white glaciers in the world's mountainous regions are important water reservoirs for the rivers of the neighboring lowlands. However, the glaciers are melting rapidly as a result of global warming and will disappear in some regions of the world in the coming decades. But not only glaciers are suffering from rising temperatures: if the permafrost, i.e. permanently frozen ground, melts, slopes can become unstable and collapse into the valley, and another water reservoir is also lost. The lecture highlights various aspects of these dynamic changes in the world's mountain regions and focuses on the topic of future water resources.
