Versatility in perfection - she is "addicted to music", Julia Fischer once revealed in an interview. And that's a good thing, because the music world is also addicted to her. At the age of 19, the violinist was already so internationally sought after that she made her debut at Carnegie Hall; the almost endless series of exciting artistic collaborations was joined by virtually all the major classical music prizes; and her talent for not only communicating with music, but also conveying it, made her the country's youngest appointed professor at the age of 23.

Conductor Vasily Petrenko is always at her side when it comes to shaping the great violin literature into a magnificent concert experience. Tchaikovsky's Violin Concerto has also been on the program - a work for whose interpretation Julia Fischer has long been celebrated: "Fresh, rousing and full of energy ..., with a broad palette of timbres and a fantastic technique. Her Tchaikovsky sounds soulful and romantic without becoming sentimental." (BR Klassik)

With so much tender mellifluousness, the setting can be a little more biting: Opening with Dvorák's cheerfully exuberant "Carnival Overture", the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra's concert offers a 20th century work that was recognized as a stroke of genius as immediately as it was comprehensively: In his New York exile, Bartók tried out the almost unprecedented concept of a concerto for the entire orchestral collective, in which instruments and groups of instruments repeatedly emerge as soloists. A fascinating experiment with which the seriously ill Bartók countered his tragic life situation with a masterpiece that was as witty as it was humorous.
