MUNDOLOGIA: Humor in front of and behind the camera
Thomas Herbrich
Saturday, 31/01/2026 / 08:15 PM / Konzerthaus Freiburg (Concert hall)
Photographer, storyteller and entertainer Thomas Herbrich combines what rarely comes together: brilliant photographic art, razor-sharp wit and a keen sense of absurdity. His new stage program is a best-of, making-of and comedy show all in one. An entertaining festival treat characterized by doubt, laughter and amazement.
Thomas Herbrich is known for his spectacular images and his wonderfully wry sense of humor. His sometimes very elaborate photo projects and picture series, including the major STERN production "German top athletes as Olympic heroes", have long since achieved cult status - not only because of their astonishing image design and perfect craftsmanship, but also because of the stories behind them. His photos look like computer animations or as if they were created by artificial intelligence, but they are not. Instead, each motif is the result of real manual work, precise planning and a large dose of creativity. It is built, staged, lit, photographed and edited.
As a lecturer, he inspires with clever entertainment, knowledge, wordplay, impressive photographic art and tongue-in-cheek media criticism. With his new "humor show", Herbrich presents a particularly personal program this time. He takes the audience on a journey through his best works, most beautiful scandals, most bizarre stories and most daring thought experiments.
Whether the moon landing really happened or white sausage deserves its own cosmos - Thomas Herbrich provides answers that nobody expected.
