Piano recital Grigory Sokolov

"Drama creator at the keys" - Even those who have never attended a concert by Grigory Sokolov have an idea of the setting of the event: sold-out halls into which a sworn community of art lovers make a pilgrimage with sacred seriousness. Dimmed lighting that allows full concentration on the stage, on the one man and his partner, the grand piano. With a global career in the rear-view mirror that has brought him together with over 200 conductors and the world's most important orchestras, the legendary Russian pianist has concentrated on solo recitals for many years. He is even seen as a guarantor that this concert format from Liszt's time has a future in the 21st century: "Sokolov's secret is as simple as it is complex: he doesn't just play the piano - Sokolov is a great storyteller, a demiurge, a drama creator on the keys" (Neue Zürcher Zeitung).

It is not at all easy to imagine Sokolov as a young savage: as a four-year-old who dreams of a career as a conductor while waving his hands; as a sixteen-year-old who polarizes the audience and jury at the 1966 Tchaikovsky Competition to such an extent that only the eloquent intervention of Emil Gilels secures him the well-deserved gold medal. But Sokolov has retained his curiosity, questioning, trying and playfully penetrating to the core of the music, even after more than seventy years. We have long since become accustomed to receiving little - or at least rather late - information about which works he will be performing. The concert will certainly be moving.

The program will be announced at a later date.
