Music without borders - building bridges and connecting people across national borders, religions and social classes is certainly one of the most important tasks of our time. Music is uniquely suited for this - and the Cairo Symphony Orchestra has felt more than comfortable in its role as ambassador since its foundation in 1959. From 1991 to 2003 and again from 2014, Ahmed El Saedi has led the orchestra through the wealth of European-influenced repertoire as well as contemporary Egyptian art music - two worlds that are also the coordinates of his own compositions.

The Cairo Symphony Orchestra will kick off the new Albert Concerts season in Beethoven-strength and with two outstanding guests. The Egyptian-French violist Sindy Mohamed already showed in 2019 in Rolando Villazón's program of the same name that she is a "star of tomorrow". She is also a virtuoso chamber musician and can be heard regularly with the Boulez Ensemble and Michael Barenboim. Since 2013, she has been a member of the international West-Eastern Divan Orchestra, of which Barenboim is concertmaster. As the son of musical excellence, the artist has made his own voice audible in the music world with the rich tone of his violin - and uses it in initiatives such as "Make Freedom Ring" to benefit humanitarian causes.

As a well-rehearsed team, Mohamed and Barenboim are the ideal instrumentation for Mozart's Sinfonia concertante, which not only fuses genres, but also almost unites the two solo parts into one eight-stringed instrument. The evening is rounded off with Beethoven's 8th Symphony, which engages in a dialog with musical tradition as well as involving the audience in conversation with tongue-in-cheek details.
