Academy of St Martin in the Fields

Keyboard strikers - music careers start with soccer. Not always, perhaps not often - but in the case of Lucas and Arthur Jussen, they do. The initial spark was the 1998 World Cup, recalls the younger Arthur: "Lucas really liked the national anthem. Our mother taught him the piece on the piano, and that's how it all started!" The two find their role models on the grass as well as on the keys, wherever you can perform at your best with perseverance and enjoyment of the game while keeping your feet on the ground. The siblings have long been one of the most sought-after piano duos of our time and are also real superstars outside their home country.

As in 2023 with their brilliant Albert debut, the brothers have Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart in their luggage again in 2026: this time the concerto KV 242, which Mozart wrote in 1776 for ladies of the music-loving noble house of Lodron. Even former German Chancellor Helmut Schmidt was able to interpret the light third part in a way worthy of a record - Mozart later subsumed it in a version for two pianos, which Arthur and Lucas Jussen presented on a gold-winning recording with the Academy of St Martin in the Fields in 2015. Johann Sebastian Bach was a pioneer of double concertos with keyboard instruments: as director of the Leipzig Collegium Musicum from 1729, he experimented with various instrumentations for the popular performances in the relaxed atmosphere of the Zimmermann coffee house. Concerts with keyboard instruments, which were just emancipating themselves as soloists and inspiring the ambition of the instrument makers, became a recipe for success - and another example of the beautiful consequences that the joy of playing and a portion of courage can have.
