Museums-Bergwerk Schauinsland (Schauinsland mining museum)
Museum mine near Freiburg with a mine building of approx. 100 km length, distributed over 22 floors. It is the largest in the Black Forest and the Vosges.
The mine complex created over 800 years in the search for silver, lead and zinc in the Schauinsland is the largest in the Black Forest with a length of approx. 100 km distributed over 22 levels.
It exhibits all the mining periods typical of metal ore mining. Silver mining in the Schauinsland brought wealth and prosperity to the city of Freiburg in the Middle Ages. It was this that made possible the construction of the cathedral, the only large Gothic church in Germany, which was begun and completed in the Middle Ages.
The Schauinsland Museum Mine offers adventurous guided tours of 2.5 h + 1.5 h with ladder descents and electric pit lamps. The 45 min guided tour gives a first impression and is also suitable for children.
Reservations are recommended for groups of 25 or more. The guided tours always take place at fixed times.
