Delicate porcelain objects

Book tickets

Guy Van Leemput finds his inspiration in the architecture of nature. After a thorough study of the material, he creates objects of an almost unreal lightness and transparency. In this extremely exciting workshop, you will learn about the limits of porcelain and how you can expand them. The delicate, white porcelain bowls are created layer by layer on an inflated balloon. A time-consuming technique that requires dexterity and patience. The porcelain, which is reinforced with flax fibers, must be worked carefully and dried slowly. During the workshop, we will learn how to handle and approach this technique. The firing process will also be discussed. To counteract the process of gravity and melting at high temperatures, a support structure is needed for each piece. How this can be produced will also be explained and discussed during the workshop.

First you will learn about the material and how to make very thin pieces. Guy Van Leemput will demonstrate many techniques for applying patterns, giving you the opportunity to practice yourself. Each participant will start a bowl using one or more of the techniques demonstrated. We will also make the supports that will carry the piece in the kiln. After completing this first "starter bowl" you will be challenged to push your limits further. New "advanced" techniques will be demonstrated, for which we will use a mini clay press. This workshop will focus on personalized instruction for each participant.
