Yentl - A musical narrative theater

Book tickets

"Yentl" is a play that combines a biographical story with a fictional plot.
It is based on the story by Isaac Bashevis Singer and is inspired by the film adaptation by Barbra Streisand with music by Michel Legrand and song lyrics by Alan & Marilyn Bergman.
At the center of the musical play are two female characters who rebel in different ways against the strict religious tradition and fight for their right to study as women.
On the one hand, we learn about Regina Jonas, who was ordained as the world's first female rabbi in 1935, and on the other about the fictional character Yentl, who pretends to be a man in order to be able to study at a Talmud school.
These two women are representative of the issue of women's rights in religion, society and culture.
