Women in Music

Works by female composers are still far too rarely the focus of attention, even in lieder. Yet female composers such as Lili Boulanger and Clara Schumann not only created magnificent individual settings, but also entire song cycles that are in no way inferior to those of their male colleagues. Soprano Annina Olivia Battaglia and her pianist Delia Kim-Strootmannin WOMEN IN MUSIC perform Lili Boulanger's melancholy and beautiful-sounding cycle CLAIRIÈRES DANS LE CIEL and devote themselves to some of Clara Schumann's most beautiful romantic songs. The exceptional settings are rounded off by the composer William Walton - the male colleague, also a master of his craft, who created a musical monument to the words of the lyricist with his wonderful THREE SONGS AFTER EDITH SITWELL.
