Webtalk: Colonial and NS history

Webtalk: Colonial and NS history

The strengthening of the "national community" enforced by the National Socialists also meant the repression and persecution of various population groups in Freiburg and the region. More than three quarters of a century after the end of the Second World War, examples will be used to examine the extent to which the actors involved and the city of Freiburg have come to terms with their past under National Socialism. The web talks will shed light on the Nazi era from a wide variety of perspectives and ask about the - sometimes incomplete or contradictory - "figures of memory" (Jan Assmann) that continue to shape the self-image and culture of remembrance in Freiburg and the region to this day. The social scientist and historian Dr. Heiko Wegmann will talk about Freiburg and colonialism in the webtalk entitled "From the Empire to National Socialism". The lecture is part of the series "Freiburg and the region under National Socialism" in the winter semester 2024/25 and is being held in cooperation with the State Agency for Civic Education, Freiburg branch office, the State Working Group of Memorials and Memorial Initiatives (LAGG), the Colloquium Politicum of the University campus Freiburg and the Southern Upper Rhine Memorials Association. Participation in the event is free of charge. The following link will take you to the event: https://meet.freiburg.de/b/jul-dnq-rkm-soq
