Luncheon talk with Prof. Dr. Tim Krieger, University campus Freiburg | As part of the series "Unprecedented: The 2024 US Presidential Elections"
The US economy has had a turbulent few years, with both the Trump and Biden administrations struggling. Although the overall growth trend was positive and similar, there were unusually sharp downturns during the coronavirus period and, most recently, surprisingly high inflation rates. In their economic policy, both administrations emphasized the domestic economy and competition with China, but also pursued different economic policy ideas and used different economic policy instruments - from import tariffs to major stimulus programs. At the end of the Biden era with its "Bidenomics" and with a view to the next US presidency, the question arises as to which economic policy challenges remain or are new on the agenda and which economic policy, both nationally and internationally, will be pursued by the USA in the next four years. Tim Krieger is Professor of Regulatory and Competition Policy at the University campus Freiburg.
