Forest festival with wood auction
Saturday, 18/01/2025 / 12:00 PM / city of Freiburg
January is not one of the most popular months in Freiburg's open-air festival calendar.
However, one event has been flying the January flag in the Mooswald for years - and is always popular. On Saturday, January 18, the traditional wood auction will once again take place in Opfingen Forest.
Timber auction
At 1 p.m., 120 tons of firewood will go under the hammer; the forestry office and the Opfingen local administration will be auctioning off logs and round timber of various lengths.
The minimum price for one meter long logs is 80 euros per stere (including VAT). Interested parties must bid at least 55 euros per stere for four to seven meters of firewood lying in stacks of six to ten steres along the forest path.
Forest festival
The auction will be accompanied by a forest festival with refreshments. From 12 noon, the Opfingen volunteer fire department will be offering sausages, bread and bacon, baked potatoes, goulash soup and Opfingen wines. Musical entertainment will be provided by the Opfingen Music Society. Children can bake bread on a stick or try their hand at the "Timber Games" in a nailing competition, tree trunk chopping or firewood stacking. At 2.30 p.m. and 4 p.m., a forest rally for children will start in cooperation with the forest house (WaldHaus) Freiburg, in which interested adults can also take part.
Location
The auction and festival site is signposted. It is located on the Wangener Weg, the first forest path after the small Opfingen lake, when driving from Opfingen in the direction of Freiburg. From the bus stop "Opfinger See" (lines 32 and 33) it is around 500 meters on foot. If you come by car, you should park at the small Opfinger See lake and walk the remaining 400 meters.
