Lecture & talk: Christian Emrich - The 8-minute decision method

Christian Emrich presents the operational tactics he has developed, which are now used by almost all fire departments in Germany. Decisions have to be made in the event of fires, traffic accidents or major sporting events. He explains how this works and how it works in his book and provides vivid insights in his lecture. In Munich, Emrich was responsible for developing the operational concept for the 2021 European Championships and the Tactics staff unit during the coronavirus pandemic, among other things. When Christian Emrich is on duty, he has to make decisions that, in the worst-case scenario, can mean the difference between life and death - and which have to be made within a very short space of time. In the "8-minute decision-making method", he gives us an insight into the work of professional firefighters and shows us how we can also use these decision-making methods in our everyday lives - whether in business or in our private lives. That is why world handball champion Dominik Klein also contributes insights from competitive sport, where it is also a matter of assessing a situation in a few moments and at the same time preparing for the key moments later in the competition.

Christian Emrich is a rescue engineer and head of the Fire and Rescue Service Department at the Freiburg Regional Administrative Council. From car accidents and flood situations to the coronavirus pandemic, he has successfully mastered numerous crisis and emergency situations as an incident commander or on the crisis team. He therefore knows exactly what is important in tricky situations: keeping a cool head and proceeding methodically so that you can deliver top performance even under pressure.
