Prenatal diagnostics (lecture)

Expectant parents are confronted with a multitude of examination options regarding prenatal diagnostics. They may ask themselves how much they want to know about their child before birth. On this evening, you will receive information about the current possibilities of prenatal diagnostics (e.g. nuchal translucency measurement, early differentiated ultrasound diagnostics, non-invasive prenatal testing for chromosomal abnormalities, testing for pregnancy-related maternal infections). The aim of both general prenatal care and specialized prenatal diagnostics is to give parents the opportunity to prepare for the birth of their child and to give the unborn child the best possible start in life if any abnormalities are detected. Counseling and support services for difficult situations are presented. Which examinations and which life changes can be useful during pregnancy in order to ensure a good pregnancy outcome are highlighted. The following applies to all options: most pregnancies end well and most children are born healthy.
