Conversion needs craftsmanship

Free entry

Markus Schlempp was born in Freiburg, the son of a master carpenter. After training and working as a carpenter, he studied architecture in Constance, Zurich and Karlsruhe. He was a scholarship holder at the Centro Europeo di Venezia per i Mestieri della Conservazione del Patrimonio Architettonico.

After working for several years at the architectural firm Miller & Maranta in Basel, he founded his own studio and was soon appointed professor at Coburg University of Applied Sciences and the University of Bamberg.

There he teaches the subject of design and construction with innovative materials, including listed buildings, in which he again establishes a strong link to his origins as a craftsman.

This interface is also the defining theme of the work in his studio, where he is primarily dedicated to sustainable and climate-friendly (re)construction, as well as that of his lecture at the Architecture Forum.
