On April 14, 1912, the Titanic, the largest ship in the world, rams into an iceberg on its maiden voyage from Southampton to New York. The night is starry and visibility is excellent. Although there are iceberg warnings, the Titanic sails at full steam because the shipowner wants to beat the record of other transatlantic ships. The iceberg is sighted too late, and the ship swerves to starboard, but tears open the entire forward flank of the iceberg. The cabins immediately fill with water. The unsinkable ship will have sunk in a good two and a half hours. The disaster takes its course because there are not enough lifeboats on board and a ship in the immediate vicinity does not respond to the calls for help...

The Titanic disaster is a bizarre combination of unfortunate circumstances and human error. A few days after the rescue, the survivors were interviewed in New York. Our play is based on the transcripts of this highly emotional investigation.
