On the occasion of her current exhibition The Cave at the Galerie für Gegenwartskunst, E-Werk event rooms, Bunmi Agusto will read from one of her essays. In conversation with Stephanie Boye and the audience, she will discuss various topics. The relationship between image and text, the meaning of jujuism and different genres within black and African literatures will be addressed. Followed by a performance by the dance collective Asambeni.
Bunmi Agusto is a world creator and visual artist who specializes in fantasy and magical stories. Born in Lagos in 1999, her work weaves symbolic systems from ancient and contemporary fantasy to create her own cosmogony. Alongside her vivid, otherworldly paintings, she writes critical essays on the themes she explores in her artistic practice.

Bunmi Agusto was born in Lagos, Nigeria, in 1999. She lives and works in London. Agusto holds an MFA from the Ruskin School of Art, an MA in Art History and Archaeology from SOAS University and a BA in Fine Art from Central Saint Martins.
Dr. Stephanie Boye is a literary scholar and ethnologist with a focus on Francophone texts related to Senegal.
Asambeni is a self-organized black collective from Freiburg. They create spaces for Afro-Caribbean dance in which self-confidence and Black joy are strengthened through movement and community.
