The Jamaican boss reggae, ska and soul pioneers "The Pioneers" have their origins in 1962 - the first single was released in 1965 and then the hit "Gimme A Little Loving" in 1967, which reached number 1 in the Jamaican singles charts. Another top hit was "Long Shot", a song about the success of a famous Jamaican racehorse. Perhaps their most famous song, "Long Shot Kick De Bucket", followed in 1969. It is the sequel to "Long Shot" and tells the story of how the racehorse, along with another horse named Combat, perished in a race at Caymanas Park in Kingston. Due to their sensational polyphonic singing and creative stylistic pioneering work, The Pioneers are considered the most successful and musically interesting Jamaican vocal groups. Their records are released on the legendary Trojan Records label, among others. The Pioneers have never disbanded and rarely but relatively regularly play live. We are very much looking forward to this opportunity to welcome these old Jamaican legends to Cafe Atlantik.

The Dutch band Boss Capone (The Upsessions) and Patsy (The Originators) will play support - they combine their two strengths, namely the driving early reggae of the Upsessions with the sweet northern soul of the Originators. That alone would be worth a headlining show...
