"In the South, we say that the Madonnas were seven sisters. The black one became the mother of all mothers and for her we play the tammorra and sing the ritual song of the tammurriata."
The Legend of Mamma Schiavona tells of this tradition and is also a journey into traditional southern Italian music, which has its origins in the barren, hard life of the rural population.
In his program, Italian percussionist Luca Rossi brings together rhythms, songs, the soundscape of exuberant festivals and the daily rites of everyday life, earthy piety and the power of ancient songs from a long archaic tarantella tradition and brings them very poetically into the here and now.

Whenever the Babylonian confusion of languages sets limits to intercultural exchange, the last bastion of dialog is music, a universal language that transcends all walls and knows no nationalities and no borders.
In the spirit of this idea, Freiburg-based Algerian musician Ahmed Abdelali created the "Initiative Babel Lokalklang" in 2017, under whose umbrella Freiburg musicians from over 15 nations merge their music into a new sound...
In the trio formation with accordion, percussion, oud and vocals, Babel is represented by three wonderful musicians who have already performed in various formations on the Tamburi Mundi stage. More and more of them!
