The Art of Travel Writing

Price: from 60.00€ to 80.00€

Do you love to travel? Do you dream of writing about your adventures and turning it into something publishable? We hope to answer these questions – and more – at the exciting creative writing weekend workshop, „The Art of Travel Writing“, led by Berlin-based, Canadian author Jonathan Garfinkel. Garfinkel has traveled the world extensively – Alaska, Cuba, Mexico, Georgia, Israel/Palestine, Pakistan, Italy. His travels find their way into his poetry, novels, journalism, memoir and plays. His writing begs the question: what is the art in transforming travel scribbles and diary entries into a publicly read literature? Participants will be asked in advance to submit a writing sample they wish to develop and have critiqued. Friday night will begin with Jonathan Garfinkel speaking about and reading from selected works, discussing the process he uses in his writing, as well as various ethical, artistic and political concerns in his approach to writing. Saturday will be spent discussing and critiquing each other’s writing samples, including on-site editing, as well as advice for how to publish. Sunday there will be a matinee reading of selected participants’ works, including a discussion with the audience. This is a unique opportunity to polish and develop your writing craft!
