Shelter

With an introduction 30 minutes before and an artist talk in English after the performance, both in the TheaterBar. Where can we find protection in difficult times? How can we maintain our vitality and zest for life in the face of the world's crises? In SHELTER, seven performers transform the bare stage into a colorful place of refuge to the sounds of a live tuba. Colorful, strong and at the same time fragile, this unique shelter appears to bounce off everything that threatens the body and impairs life. A universe full of rebellious and cheerful expressionism in which humor becomes a survival strategy. The last resort before the inevitable downfall of civilization is at least to laugh at oneself - because what could be more dangerous for humans than thinking they are immortal? The performers, dazzling eco-queer figures, contrast the dense, melancholy music of the sousaphonist with their excessive cheerfulness and expressive movements. They celebrate a manifesto of laughter, joy and pain that cannot be separated from one another. The Brazilian choreographer Volmir Cordeiro is known for particularly expressive pieces in which complex political themes are dealt with on stage using a critical approach. In SHELTER, he also combines social criticism with artistic rebellion and invites the audience to give free rein to their thoughts and discover new horizons of possibilities CREDITS Choreography: Volmir Cordeiro Performance: Marcela Santander Corvalan, Lucia Garcia Pulles, Martin Gil,Kiduck Kim, Cassandre Munoz/Moun, Isabella Fernandes Santana, Washington Timbó Bassist: Fanny Meteier Lighting design: Abigail Fowler Sound design: Aria De la Celle Costume design: Volmir Cordeiro in close collaboration with the performers and Coco Blanvillain Outside eye: Paca Tim Faraus Stage manager: Aliénor Lebert A production by Donna Volcan In co-production with Points Communs - Nouvelle Scène Nationale de Cergy-Pontoise et du Val d'Oise; La Briqueterie - CDCN du Val-de-Marne; Charleroi Danse - Centre Chorégraphique de la Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles; Fondation Royaumont; King's Fountain; Théâtre Auditorium Scène Nationale de Poitiers; L'Échangeur - CDCN Hauts-de-France; Theater Freiburg; Le Phare - CCN du Havre-Normandie, Espaces Pluriels à Pau.
