Talk with Patrick Wellinski, Deutschlandfunk Kultur | As part of the "Werkschau: David Lynch"
From the post-industrial black and white horror of Eraserhead to the thoroughly depraved small-town idylls of Blue Velvet and Twin Peaks to the mysterious doppelganger hell rides of Lost Highway, Mulholland Drive and Inland Empire: Probably no other US filmmaker has left such a lasting mark on the second half of the 20th century. century as lastingly as David Lynch, who died in 2025. His masterful individual style, fed by America's collective myths, turned Lynch's surname into an adjective in its own right - "Lynchian" stands for itself like "Kafkaesque" and "Orwellian", you just know what is meant. In this talk with Patrick Wellinski, well-known film critic for Deutschlandfunk Kultur, we will be looking at the life and work of a unique director who has created his very own American aesthetic with his surreal narrative styles, multi-layered characters and highly atmospheric worlds in an unmistakable visual language between beauty and horror. David Lynch revolutionized cinema with his dream logic, artistic sense and technical perfection - and leaves us with a trail of almost unsolvable riddles and profound symbolism that resourceful cineastes will be able to follow for many years to come.
