Quarter building at the goods station

At the public event, the city council will provide information on the background and current planning status of the neighborhood building at the freight station. The building is to become a meeting point for as many people as possible in the neighborhood with a neighborhood room, youth club, housing for refugees, sports field and communal area on the roof.

If the municipal council approves the project in the summer, a multifunctional municipal building will be built on the Güterbahnhof site that is currently unparalleled in Freiburg. The new building will be called "D4", contain communal facilities and housing for refugees and cost 14.3 million euros (as of today). The construction period will last from mid-2026 to mid-2028. Among other things, it will include a neighborhood room, a children's and youth club, 12 apartments for refugees, a covered sports field and a public communal area on the roof.

Passive house standard is the aim for the communal facilities, while the residential floors will be built to efficiency house standard 40. Heat will be supplied via the district heating network. Taking into account the usability of the roof garden, an overhead solar power system with an output of around 22.4 kWp is planned for 60 percent of the usable area as a partial roof.
