Eastern European Perspectives. Literature, history and politics for a Europe of the future

Eastern European Perspectives. Literature, history and politics for a Europe of the future

Central and Eastern European perspectives on Europe are the focus of a discourse festival that sheds light on current issues relating to democracy, peace and freedom. It is dedicated to the question of what hopes Central and Eastern European countries associate with Europe and how the West can address these. The focus will be on encounters with authors from various Eastern European countries who will read from their works. There will also be discussions with translators and people who, as "bridge builders" to the cultures of Eastern Europe, will analyze and discuss the past and present.

The opening event will take place on Thursday, December 5 at 3 p.m. at the Catholic Academy Freiburg, Wintererstr. 1, and will be broadcast via livestream. Further readings and discussions are planned for December 6 at Theater Freiburg.

The event is the result of networking between the Katholische Akademie Freiburg, the Literaturhaus Freiburg, Theater Freiburg and the Heinrich Böll Foundation Baden-Württemberg in cooperation with the Museum für Neue Kunst (Museum of Contemporary Art) Freiburg, the Colloquium politicum and the Institute for Modern and Eastern European History at the University campus Freiburg.
