Music and dance in fairy tales

Time and again, fairy tales tell of joyful celebrations, magnificent balls at court and amazing gatherings in magical places where music is played and dancing takes place. We travel to these settings with fairy tales from different countries. But individual fairy tale characters also make music or dance, and when they do, it always has an important function. What motifs of music and dance are there in fairy tales? We will explore this question this weekend. The basis for dancing is music; rhythm and melody get us moving, but music also moves us inwardly. It is no different for fairy tale characters, who are often moved, even enchanted, by wonderful music. Something special always happens in fairy tales when dancing and listening to music: people can meet each other in dance and music can open hearts, but music and dance also have a dangerous side that should not be ignored. In the seminar, we will consider selected fairy tales and look at what meanings music and dance can have - for the fairy tale characters themselves, but also for us in a figurative sense.
