Minster concert - St. John Passion BWV 245 - Freiburg Cathedral Boys' Choir

Book tickets

In the run-up to the upcoming beatification of the martyr Max Joseph Metzger, the Freiburg Cathedral Boys' Choir will be performing the "St. John Passion" by J. S. Bach in Freiburg Cathedral on Sunday, October 20, 2024 at 5:00 pm.
The work was performed for the first time in Leipzig in 1724, but was changed by Bach a year later. Later performances also brought changes and additions to the work, so that the version we know today (which is also performed in the Minster) is a combination of these first performances.
Bach wrote the Passion at the beginning of his Leipzig period; it is therefore a very early fruit of his involvement with a boys' choir. In this respect, the Freiburg Cathedral Boys' Choir is part of the historical performance practice with boys' voices.
The soloists are Maraile Lichdi (soprano), Ursula Eittinger (alto), Ronan Caillet (tenor), Wolfgang Newerla (baritone) and Markus Lemke (Christus). Members of the SWR Symphony Orchestra will perform; Boris Böhmann will conduct.
Tickets in advance for 40,- to 15,- EUR via the known Reservix advance booking offices, e.g. BZ-Ticket and at www.reservix.de. Box office from 15:30 in the Cathedral Singing School.
