On Thursday, October 24 at 7.30 pm, the discussion evening "Saving the planet with law?" will take place at the Catholic Academy Freiburg, Wintererstr. 1, as well as online.

Two sensational court rulings open up new perspectives in climate protection: the climate decision of the Federal Constitutional Court in 2021 and the ruling of the European Court of Human Rights in 2024. Both see civil liberties and human rights endangered by insufficient climate protection.

The consequences of these "climate lawsuits" and the shift of the climate protection debate from politics to jurisdiction will be discussed. What does this mean for the separation of powers and responsibility towards future generations? These topics will be discussed by Maximilian Probst (publicist at DIE ZEIT, Hamburg), Prof. Dr. Sabine Schlacke (Energy, Environmental and Maritime Law, Greifswald) and Prof. Dr. Cathrin Zengerling (Environment and Natural Resources, Freiburg).

The event in the series "On Life in the Anthropocene" takes place in cooperation with the Günther Anders Research Center, Theater Freiburg and the Studium generale of the University campus Freiburg.
