Passion, disappointment, vanity, anger, contempt and, of course, boundless love! Principled rhetoric and moral principles clash with double standards and opportunism, and the audience is shown in verse the abysmal contradictions between knowledge and action in which humanity has been entangled since time immemorial. First performed in 1666, this stage classic, which revolves around the lies of life and uncompromising behavior, has not survived the centuries for nothing. This is because "LE MISANTHROPE" is largely based on authentic, real conflicts that drove the author at the time and is even considered to be Molière's most autobiographical play ever. Almost 400 years later, a theater group is now experiencing how today's socio-political reality of heated debates spills over into the production and threatens to blow up the performance when, of all people, the main character of "Misanthrope" does not show up for the performance because his uncompromising attitude got him into trouble on the way to the theater and he is questioned by the police. What a shock! The desperate ensemble members are forced to pull themselves together and act quickly: Who can step in? Who in the group is fit to be a "misanthrope"? The conflict between loyalty to principle and willingness to compromise spills over into the ensemble.
