The story of The Queen of Spades by Alexander Pushkin became famous primarily through Tchaikovsky's musical setting. However, Pushkin, who was stylized into a kind of national icon ("Pushkin - our one and only"), especially in Soviet times, is also viewed critically today in post-Soviet countries and under the prism of post-colonialism. The LITERARY SALON addresses this question as well as Pushkin's literary merits as a seismograph of his time. With his protagonist Hermann (it is no coincidence that he has a German name), themes such as greed for social advancement, the phenomenon of spiritualism and, last but not least, the game of love are dealt with. Prof. Dr. Elisabeth Cheauré, Professor Emeritus of Slavic and Gender Studies; Chairwoman of the Tsvetaeva Center at the University campus Freiburg e.V. With Victor Calero (reading) and Marjana Plotkina (piano)
