Standing as a candidate for the Disability Council

As the city's official self-representative body, the members of the advisory board have been advising the city administration and the local council since 2008, representing the concerns of around 25,000 people with disabilities in the city.

The advisory board members are democratically elected every five years. The election will take place on Sunday, March 30. All people with disabilities (or their legal representatives) who live in Freiburg and are over the age of 16 can vote.

The 16 people with disabilities play the main role on the advisory board. As experts in their own right, their knowledge flows into the city administration and local politics on an equal footing. The committee is supplemented by five members from self-help and disability organizations and one member from each municipal council faction.

All people can stand for election who

  • are at least 18 years old,
  • register their candidacy by January 30, 2025,
  • are resident in Freiburg,
  • have a degree of disability of at least 50,
  • or are the legal representative of a person with a disability (including minors).
