This series of organ concerts has been an integral part of Freiburg's summer cultural life for over 90 years. The unique organ installation in the wonderful space of the cathedral is a magnet for outstanding international performers and organ enthusiasts from all over the world. The symbiosis of space and sound inspires and fascinates performers and listeners alike - creating very special sound experiences and thrilling concert experiences.

Michael Hoppe studied Catholic church music at the Robert-Schumann Musikhochschule in Düsseldorf with Paul Heuser, Wolfgang Seifen, Hans Dieter Möller and Raimund Wippermann. After completing his diploma, he went on to study choral conducting at the Cologne University of Music, graduating with a diploma and a degree in organ performance at the Robert Schumann University of Music in Düsseldorf, as well as numerous master classes with Gaston Litaize, Ludger Lohmann, Wolfgang Rübsam, Peter Planyavsky and others. Philippe Lefebvre. As a scholarship holder of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, Hoppe has participated several times in the international Altenberg Organ Academy for organ improvisation.
From 1992 to 1995, he was assistant to the cathedral conductor at Essen Cathedral and lecturer for church music in the priest training program of the Ruhr diocese.
In 1995, he moved to the Aachen parish church of St. Severin, a focal point for organ music in the diocese of Aachen. After lecturing at the Robert-Schumann Musikhochschule in Düsseldorf and the St. Gregorius-Haus in Aachen, he was appointed Professor of Organ Performance/Organ Improvisation and Composition at the Catholic University of Church Music in Aachen in October 2001, where he was also Vice-Rector. This was followed by further teaching activities at the College of Music and Dance Cologne, Aachen department, in the area of composition. Hoppe has been a church music consultant in the diocese of Aachen since 2005. He was appointed diocesan church music director in 2018.
Numerous compositional publications in the fields of organ, children's musicals and
choral music, CD recordings, radio and television recordings for WDR, ARTE and Saarländischer Rundfunk as well as a busy concert schedule as an organist in Germany and abroad round off his field of activity. Hoppe has been cathedral organist at Aachen Cathedral since July 2013.
