Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy was not only one of the most important composers of the Romantic period, he also had a connection to the region around Freiburg and Alsace. After his marriage to the pastor's daughter Cécile Jeanrenaud, their honeymoon took them through Alsace and the Black Forest, among other places. During this trip, Mendelssohn composed part of his setting of the 42nd psalm "Wie der Hirsch schreit" in Freiburg. Robert Schumann judged this work to be "the highest level that he [Mendelssohn] reached as a church composer, indeed that of modern church music in general". It is at the center of the program "Hör mein Bitten" with works by Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy, which the Freiburg Martinschor will perform on 28.09.2024 at 8 pm in the Martinskirche in Freiburg i.Br.
The soloist is Janina Staub, soprano, with Kirsten Galm at the organ, who will also perform two solo organ pieces.
